Senior Dog Given a Second Chance to Walk
When 15-year-old Griff, a schnauzer mix from Englewood, Colorado, lost his wheelchair to theft, his world came to a sudden halt. For Griff and his owner, Megan Caligiuri, those daily walks were everything. Unable to move freely, Griff’s quality of life suffered, and Megan was left heartbroken.
Desperate for help, Megan turned to her neighbors on the app Nextdoor, hoping for information or assistance. The response was overwhelming—more than 80 community members stepped up, offering donations, resources, and words of encouragement. One observant resident even noticed a man using wheels that looked suspiciously like those from Griff’s stolen wheelchair.
That attention led Megan to Kathryn Groenewold, who collaborates with Paw Prosper and Walkin’ Pets, a company specializing in mobility solutions for animals. In a remarkable act of generosity, Walkin’ Pets donated a brand-new wheelchair for Griff, restoring his independence and joy.
Megan, deeply moved by the outpouring of support, says this experience has renewed her faith in humanity. Thanks to the kindness of strangers, Griff is back on his feet—exploring, sniffing, and enjoying daily walks once again.
